Information on the conflict in Terminal Cuenca del Plata in Uruguay with the Belgian company Katoen NatieInternationaal VakbondswerkPosted by webmaster 11 Sep, 2015 14:10
Since 2001, this company is concessionaire of the specialized container terminal port of Montevideo.
This group has terminals in several European countries such as Belgium, France, Germany, and Spain.
This past year gave birth to a rather bitter conflict, which unfortunately resulted in the dismissal and termination of the collective agreement.
These days, once again, we are facing a new conflict: Since last Friday, all operations have been stopped indefinitely. The current conflict stems from the refusal of the company to ensure its workers' wages, along with their refusal to sign an agreement for decent working conditions.
The company strictly refuses to sign any agreement that involves improvements or stable working conditions for workers. The SUPRA believes the conflict will harden with the passing of days, and that it would be helpful to exert pressure on this group, with respect to the capacity of external observers, as this conflict-deregulation of port work- involves the entire European economic community.
The SUPRA (Single Port Union and Allied Branches) is the Uruguayan union that brings together all dockworkers of Uruguay and is an affiliate member of the IDC.
